Wednesday December 18 2013 Raymond Caldwell was 15 years old when he hitched up a team of horses to a wagon with 30 bushels of corn in tow leaving the only home he and his ancestors had ever known in the idyllic Cataloochee Valley I drove the wagon all over the farm but that was the first time I ever drove it out of there said Raymond The house was completed around 1906 and appeared to have comfortably housed the family for many years The land around the house also had several outbuildings a barn and springhouse The Caldwell house was one of approximately 200 buildings in the Cataloochee valley that housed residents in the early 1900 s though only a few of them remain
